We’ve always loved our Fat Cat Mexican-Style Habanero sauce in Bloody Mary’s. The sauce’s fruity flavors and punchy heat just seem to work wonders for that classic eye-opener. But how would the sauce work in other cocktails? We wanted to find out.
We researched the web, looking for inspiration, and came upon several spicy cocktails that used chile-infused vodkas as their foundations, as well as a few unique recipes for “habanero martinis” (like this one and this one). Oddly, no recipe we found actually used hot sauce, only chile peppers. So taking inspiration from what was out there, we came up with a “hot” martini that gets its heat and color from our Fat Cat Mexican-Style Habanero sauce. Fans of dry cocktails (like the classic gin-vermouth martini) should love it.
Here’s what we did:
4.5 oz. reposado tequila
2 teaspoons of sugar
5 large leaves of mint
.5 oz dry vermouth
1 teaspoon Fat Cat Mexican-Style Habanero
Juice of half a lime
In a large glass or cocktail shaker, muddle the mint, lime juice, sugar, Fat Cat Mexican-Style Habanero sauce and vermouth until the sugar has dissolved completely.
Add the tequila and ice and shake vigorously until well mixed and chilled.
Pour into a cocktail glass.
